Caring for Muay Thai Equipment
“Caring for Muay Thai Equipment”
After a good Customize Muay Thai Shorts for work out in the gym the last thing you want to do is worry about cleaning or drying out your Muay Thai Gloves, Hand wraps and Fight gear, as well as your Thai Boxing Shorts.
*Thai Boxing Satin Shorts
As simple as it is to put your Muay Thai Boxing Shorts (Pantalon Muay Thai) in to the washing machine, if done incorrectly, especially if you don’t know the wash temperatures etc, it can have a damaging effect on the shorts and can reduce the life time of the shorts.
The best option for the shorts would ideally be a Luke warm watered hand wash but especially in modern societies way of life and how time consuming that would be, the other alternative, as mentioned in previous paragraph is to machine wash the shorts. Noting that all shorts should be washed at a maximum of 30 degrees, turned inside out and when the washing cycle is finished to hand up to dry, and do not, i repeat do not tumble dry.
Because Satin fabric is a delicate and luxurious fabric it requires special care. If your Thai Boxing Shorts are washed and looked after with the proper care and attention they deserve, as you have spent well earned money purchasing them, the right attention to detail will help ensure that the material used in the shorts will last longer and keep its appearance for a longer period of time.
*Muay Thai Hand Wraps
The majority of Manufacturers of hand wraps use a blend of Cotton and Elastane to make the wraps. We all know the properties of cotton and the care it requires to maximise its appearance and wear but elastane I’m not sure. Elastane fibres can be stretches over a greater distance and then reverting back to its natural length when relaxed as the product has a high stretch tension.
Most hand wraps have a 5% Elastane material combined with the Cotton material of the wrap which allows the user to wrap the hand over a greater distance, therefore providing a safer use. Elastane fibres also have a high degree of comfort combined with the greater freedom of movement. Adding the Elastane to the Cotton material used in Hand Wraps allows for shape retention and also accelerates crease recovery after use.
Correct care must be taken to preserve the Elastane feature of the Hand Wraps for longer life. Over washing them and tumble drying them, as with the Muay Thai Shorts can severely damage the wraps causing them to lose the elastic feature in them. As with the Shorts preference should be a hand wash in Luke warm water but that’s not always possible. A low heat machine wash is the alternative.
Once washed the Hand wraps should be hung up to dry, and taking the time to run your hands down the wraps whilst they are hanging up to remove the creases that might occur if just balled up and left to dry in a corner and forgotten about. Feel free to give them a quick iron by putting the iron onto a low heat, placing the Iron on a flat surface and pulling the wraps between the 2 contacts to create a new feel and keep the appearance the same. It would be advised to always roll your hand wraps up after each use.

The Muay Thai Boxing Gloves could be just opened up to allow fresh into the inside to dry them out then spray some deodorising spray into them once dry to make they smell nice, and impart to remove any remaining left in them. Alternatively to dry them out you could put some dry charcoal into a cloth or misalign and leave to sit there over night to remove the moisture, and then spray with deodoriser. My own TIP would be to quite simply put a new and unused teabag into the Muay Thai Boxing Gloves and leave sit.
For the care of the outside of the Muay Thai Boxing Gloves after use, wipe down with anti bacterial wipes to remove and germs, blood or bacteria or any other foreign objects that may exist on the gloves. When the Muay Thai Boxing Guantes Boxeo are removed of all foreign bodies replace back onto the hand and cover with moisturising clean or Vaseline and rub in well with the intention of keeping the leather soft, and with you placing your hand back into the Muay Thai Boxing Glove, while doing so, its purpose is to retain the shape of the gloves.
Once completion of the rubbing is complete it is importance to rub down with warm water to remove any excess cream left behind, as cold water won’t have the same capabilities as warm to remove such substances. When both the inside and outside of the Muay Thai Boxing Gloves are cleaned, place out of harm’s way so all your efforts of cleaning are not undone via an accident of one nature or the other.
